Three men have been arrested by police in Kumasi for their various roles in a robbery and rape incident at St Dominic Senior High School.
On May 21, the three, Kwadwo Dwamena, a trader, Osei Kwabena and Dominic Frimpong both drivers stormed the dormitory of the school at Wadie Adwumakaase in the Ashanti Region while the students were sleeping, and committed the crime.
Police say they terrorised the students, with a locally manufactured pistol, subjected them to beatings and robbed them of their mobile phones.
Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, told the media Kwadwo Dwamena was the one who raped one of the students.
"Osei Kwabena and one other at large besieged the dormitory and ordered the students at gunpoint and robbed them of their mobile phones cash and provisions amid threats and beatings", ACP Duku said.
He said in the course of the act, Kwadwo Dwamena dragged one of the female students outside and raped her on a heap of sand.
He revealed that a distress call by one of the students brought the police to the scene leading to the arrest of Kwadwo.
Police have also arrested a former member of the Community Police Unit with a sub-machine gun.
ACP Ampofo Duku says Kwabena Kwarteng also known as Mataata was accosted at Tafo by the police patrol team. A search conducted on him revealed the sophisticated gun.
