The Ghana Police Service has launched a project to improve security in the Western region. The Crime Fighting project which is supported by the British government and some telecom companies is being undertaken in view of security challenges posed by the oil exploration. Special police emergency numbers have been made available to residents in need of police assistance. The project will also focus on training and equipping the officers. The Director of Police Public Relations, Superintendent Kwesi Ofori said the police unit will be adequately resourced “to police the area effectively.” Superintendent Kwesi Ofori said the project will support activities of the Marine Police established mainly for the purpose of the oil exploration.
