Fifty-one riders of motorcycles and tricycles have been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
Authorities say the culprits failed to obey traffic regulations and breached the law. Letters of warning have been issued to serve as a deterrent to them and others.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has for weeks now seized unregistered motorbikes and tricycles in the region.
Fifty-one riders have so far been arrested. Police say the breach of traffic regulations is the cause of the many fatal accidents recorded in the region.
“Majority of the accidents on our roads are man-made. It has come to our notice that drivers jump traffic lights. Motor and tricycle riders are mostly culprits. That is why we started this type of operation," DCOP Kwasi Akomeah-Apraku, Deputy Regional Police Commander, said.

Though the culprits have been released, letters have been issued to them serving as warning.
“This is the first time we are conducting such an exercise. Therefore, we thought it wise to warn them. Letters have been given to all 51 persons. If any of them commits such an offense again, they will face the court,” he warned.

DCOP Akomeah-Apraku warns of more arrests.
He cautions drivers to be extra vigilant as the police have been deployed to check drivers who fail to obey traffic rules.
“This activity is not going to be a nine-day-wonder. It is going to be sustained. Such practice will be stopped in the region. We are not targeting the motor and tricycle drivers alone. Private, commercial vehicles are included. As far as you are on the road, you have to observe traffic rule. If you are caught violating the rules, you will be dealt with,” he warned.
