The Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Felix Asare-Darko, has stated that the Police Service is not a gold mine where service personnel can acquire wealth overnight.
He pointed out that the Police Service is a human institution established to provide security for the state as well as protect lives and property of every citizen.
DCOP Mr. Asare-Darko gave the caution when he addressed police personnel at Donkorkrom in the Afram Plains District of the Eastern Region.
Accompanied by the Eastern Regional Staff Officer, ASP Peter K. Acheampong, Mr. Asare-Darko said, the Police administration was aware of certain bad characters within the service but pointed out that since majority of service personnel were well-behaved they had helped to redeem the sinking image of the service.
The Deputy Commissioner therefore advised them to reflect soberly on their performance in order to improve.
He reminded them to always aim at working hard to improve the police service because it was a viable institution that would help build a future for them.
The Regional Police Commander made it clear to them that police officers posted to remote parts of the country were not forgotten, adding that those who had served for more than five years would be transferred out of their stations.
"You should therefore not see such postings as punishment because the police administration holds record of every policeman and woman," he stressed.
On the recent up rising by some eight police officers against the former District Commander, ASP Samuel Yeboah at Donkorkrom, the DCOP said all those involved had been charged and they would be made to face police orders as soon as the Headquarters gave the go ahead.
The District Police Commander, ASP William Yankey Acolatse, briefed Mr. Asare-Darko on problems confronting police work in the Afram Plains.
Among these were lack of vehicles, accommodation and inadequate staff for smooth policing in the area.
ASP Acolatse disclosed that even though Afram Plains was the food basket of the nation, large herds of cattle in the area were discouraging farmers from expanding their farms because of wanton destruction of farm produce by the Fulani headsmen and their cattle.
At Tease, the acting station officer, Mrs Peace Akpalolo, complained about poor living accommodation, lack of toilet facilities and the break down of the only police vehicle which served as a link between them, Donkorkrom and Ekye-Amanfrom.
At Amankwaa, DCOP Asare-Darko after inspecting the police post there recommended Lance Corporal James Addo for promotion to the position of Sergeant for dedicated service in the area.
The Police Regional Commander later interacted with police officers’ wives at Tease-Kwahu and Donkorkrom and advised them to support their husbands.
