The Ghana Police Service will this afternoon announce details of their investigations into a recruitment fraud that was reported over the weekend as it arrests five suspects.
Hundreds of prospective recruits from various parts of the country claimed to have received letters directing them to report at different Police training Schools last Saturday.
The Police Service turned away more than two hundred persons in all six Police Training Schools across the country.
Some of the affected persons who spoke to Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor at the Police training School at the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi said they thought the letters were from the appropriate channel so they did not bother to verify.
Director in charge of public affairs DCOP David Ampah-Bannin said the service has begun investigations into the conduct of the fraudsters and how they were able to send the letters to such a huge number of people across the country.
Results of the investigation will be made available to the public this afternoon, he added.
DCOP Ampah-Bannin said he finds it baffling that people would fall for such a scam when the service had already announced that it has not started recruitment.
“We have issued more than three statements which I signed personally, informing the general public that the police have not started recruitment and that people are going round collecting money from people so no one should engage in any recruitment process”, he said.
DCOP Ampah-Bannin said these problems could be averted if the general public adheres to cautions by the police.
He cautioned the general public to be weary when dealing with suspicious people.
One key issue which will also be investigated is the alleged forgery of DCOP Ampah-Bannin’s signature which was on the letters circulated.
