The Ghana Police Service has called on the public, particularly health facilities and families, to remain vigilant following the recent baby theft incident at the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra.

Speaking at a press briefing, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, reminded hospitals to enforce strict identification protocols for staff and visitors, and to ensure babies are released only after proper verification.

She also advised that health facilities install and monitor CCTV systems in maternity wards and entrances, maintain visitors’ logs, and restrict access to natal wards to prevent unauthorised entry.

Police further urged the public to report suspicious persons or activities immediately, emphasising that safety and security in healthcare settings are shared responsibilities.

The advisory comes in the wake of the arrest of Latifa Salifu, suspected of stealing a four-day-old baby from Mamprobi Hospital’s postnatal ward.

The Police said that the measures are aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future and protecting the welfare of newborns.
