Police Administration has withdrawn its personnel from the Head Quarters of the two major political parties in Accra.
There was heavy security presence at both national offices of the two party offices in what the police say is proactive measure to ensure security.
Chief Superintendent Hamza Yakubu, Chief Commander of the armoured car squadron, told Joy News they had picked intelligence reports the demonstrating Andani Youth might just pay an unannounced visit to the two offices.
He said to ensure law and order they had to rush to the various offices.
They would not sit and wait for any eventuality to occur before they begin a fire-fighting exercise, he said.
The group – Northern Youth for Justice visited three key state institutions where they presented a petition to the Attorney General, the Chief Justice and to the Speaker of Parliament.
The police say they have had to withdraw because the youth have finished the demonstration and poses no further threats.
Chief Inspector Hamza commended officials of the two parties for cooperating well with the police as well as the demonstrators who he said were well behaved.
Meanwhile the NPP, deputy Head of Communications Perry Okudzeto said, rather jokingly, he is happy the NPP for a short period enjoyed full state protection.
He however noted the party officials does not feel anyway threatened by the demonstrating youth even though they (NPP) also picked up some information the angry youth might just pay them a visit.
The Propaganda Secretary of the NDC Richard Quarshiegah confirmed the police’s presence but said the place was calm.
He said the ruling party officials had no cause to believe the demonstration will turn violent or that the demonstrators will turn their anger on the party HQ.
He however commended the action of the police.
