A middle-aged man was killed Friday morning by a stray bullet from the gun of a policeman at timber market, here in Accra.
The deceased, according to reports was among scores of bystanders who were looking on as the policeman and a commercial bike rider, 'Okada' were engaged in a confrontation over the breach of some motor traffic rules.
An eyewitness and a friend of the deceased who spoke to Joy News said the policeman attempted firing warning shots to force the rider to submit but instead his bullets hit the deceased, identified as Teiko Amuzu.
The deceased died on the way to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he was being rushed to get emergency medical attention.
The policeman according to eyewitnesses bolted leaving his motorbike, handcuffs, and a beret for fear of being attacked by a mob which was gathering at the scene.
The motor rider also panicked and bolted, reports say.
“We also went to the Jamestown police station to report and the officers there came to inspect the crime scene and have also taken custody of the abandoned police possessions,” the eyewitness said.
Joy News gathers that the family of the deceased has identified the body of the deceased.
Some eyewitnesses have expressed disappointment as they say they expected that by Monday, arrests would have been made but nothing has happened since the incident.
Meanwhile, there has been no update from the police on the report on Joy News’ Latif Iddrisu who was brutalized by policemen at the offices of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Several other reports on police brutality continue to sweep the country, including the story of a young man shot dead by the police on suspicion of being an armed robber.
The police say they are investigating the incident but the family of the deceased maintain their boy is not an armed robber and have asked the police to accept wrongdoing.
