Representatives of political parties have unanimously called on the Electoral Commission to provide printed copies of the voters register to the various political parties instead of the Compact Disc Read only memory (CD- ROM).According to the parties, printing 21, 000 copies of the voters register for the various polling stations is an expensive undertaking for the parties to bear. These concerns were raised at the hugely anticipated Inter Party Advisory Committee Meeting (IPAC) held with the EC on Tuesday. The meeting was also to look into the upcoming opening of the voters register scheduled to begin on July 31.Speaking to Joy News after the meeting Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the parties would not take registers on CD- ROMs which were without photographs. He said such a register would be difficult to collate and analyze especially without the photographs.Commenting on the usefulness of today’s IPAC meeting, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the meeting offered the NDC the opportunity to know the Electoral Commission’s time table for the December elections. He however expressed his reservations about the clash in registration between the National Identification Authority and the Electoral Commission. His views were no different from that expressed by Bede Ziedeng General Secretary of the Democratic Freedom Party who also spoke to Joy News.He said any move that will incur extra debt on the parties would obviously not be welcomed and called on the EC to provide hard copies of the voters register to the various parties. But the question is if the individual parties claim they cannot afford printing hard copies of the voters register, can and should the EC take up that cost for all the political parties?Nathan Gadugah
