A political sociologist at the Cape Coast University has lamented the seeming division in the ruling National Democratic Congress.
Mr. Kingsley Adjei said the phenomenon does not augur well for a party that has just won power.
Ex-President Jerry Rawlings has publicly criticised what he says is the slow pace of the President Mills administration and has questioned the competence of some of his appointees.
His comments appear not to have gone down well with some members of the party, provoking a swift rebuttal from Alhaji Batture who accused him (Jerry Rawlings) of not doing enough to promote unity within the party.
In an interview with Joy News' Matilda Asante on Thursday, Mr. Kinsley Adjei said the wrangling smacks of “NDC washing its dirty linen in public.”
This he noted is detracting from what the government was voted into power to do.
He cited the souring prices of crude oil, and the devastating effects of the economic crunch as needing immediate government attention.
Mr. Kingsley Adjei regretted the political culture in which in-coming governments must at all cost prosecute its predecessor and called on the Mills government to be cautious in trying to find wrongs in the previous administration.
He advised President Mills to be resolute in his handling of matters affecting the country.
