Delegates who will be choosing a flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been urged to make a thorough assessment of the contestants to select the right person.
Mr Albert Atta-Annor, National Programme Coordinating Secretary of the Addo-Kufuor Campaign who made the call said it was important since, "Politics is a very serious business, which must be handled by serious people".
He was speaking at the conclusion of the Campaign's programme in constituencies in the Greater Accra.
Mr Atta-Annor noted that any policy by an NPP flagbearer and a potential President of Ghana after the 2008 elections would go a long way to affect the people either positively or negatively hence the need to entrust it into the hands of people with "demonstrated qualities in many fields".
He stated that the NPP government had done well sustaining the country's democratic dispensation and economic growth and stressed the need for a flagbearer who would unite the party and "push forward" to leave a worthy legacy for the future.
Mr Atta-Annor appealed to all the contestants to go about their campaign in a peaceful manner and with decorum since only one of them would be chosen.
He said "after all the NPP is one big family and after congress must unite to ensure victory for the great party".
Alhaji Abdul Wahab, Special Aide, said the NPP was going through trial moments since this was the first time that it had to elect a successor for a seating President form the party.
"If we do not take care, we will be shooting ourselves in the foot in our desire to take over from the President," he cautioned.
He urged NPP members and sympathizers to unite to ensure the party retained power in the 2008 elections.
