Polytechnic graduates in the Northern Region have been advised to develop their respective entrepreneurial skills to enable them take advantage of the opportunities to be offered by the Savannah Accelerated Development Programme.
The Managing Director of Sekaf Ghana Limited, Mr. Senyo Kpelly, gave the advice during the launch of the Tamale Polytechnic Student’s Representative Council (SRC) week celebration. It was on the theme; “Bridging the economic gap between the north and south through the SADA: the role of the Polytechnic graduates”.
Mr. Kpelly pointed out that the “role of the polytechnic graduate is to lead the private sector in northern Ghana by developing an entrepreneurial culture and taking advantage of the wealth of job creation opportunities presented by SADA.”
According to him polytechnic graduates could help bridge the poverty gap between the north and south by creating jobs instead of seeking jobs.
Mr. Kpelly noted that as SADA carried out massive investments in infrastructure and mechanised agriculture, cities within the savannah zone would increase in population; hence demands for food, clothing and shelter would also increase.
He, therefore, entreated polytechnic graduates to see the opportunities that lay ahead as the SADA programme rolled out.
“With SADA’s initiative on our side, polytechnic graduates must explore the untapped potential in northern Ghana; fruits are waiting to be plucked and processed and people are waiting for quality Ghanaian printed fabrics” he stressed.
The SRC President, Mr. Braimah Damba, entreated government and stakeholders to use polytechnic students and graduates as the pivot for the operation of the SADA.
The Programme Coordinator of the Youth Empowerment for Life, Mr. Sulemana Nelson, observed that the public sector had limited jobs.
He advised polytechnics to think about getting “unusual job opportunities.”
