A poor road network is affecting the smooth operation of a first class multipurpose palliative care centre at Sokode near Ho.
The centre was established by New Seed International, a Ho- based NGO in collaboration with Solace International of United States of America for People Living With HIV/AIDS.
Rehabilitation of the two-kilometre road that links the centre to the town is estimated to cost about 120 million cedis.
Service providers including experts from USA and clients are unable to access the facility established to serve as a home for rejected PLWHAs, a research centre and HIV/AIDS drug experimental home for health professionals.
The GH¢180,000 centre has two wards, a counselling room, conference hall, a store and a childhood development centre for HIV/AIDS orphans.
Mr Livingnus Acquah-Jackson, Executive Director of New Seed International told GNA that the project was to provide a stigma free environment for PWLWAs to enhance their socio-economic development.
He observed that stigmatization of PLWHAs in the society was widespread making PLWHAs shy away from accessing health care.
Mr Acquah-Jackson said the clinic had facilities to boost moral of PLWHAs and make them feel comfortable in addition to being introduced to income-generating activities such as kente weaving and vegetable farming.
He pointed out that the centre was one of the best palliative centres in the sub-region and called for assistance from stakeholders to rehabilitate the road.
Mr Acquah-Jackson urged the public to refrain from discrimination against PLWHAs and appealed to stakeholders to support the centre for their mutual benefit.Source: GNA
