Drivers in some parts of the Central region are said to be charging their passengers more for ferrying them because they say recent rains and accompanying floods have made most of the roads virtually impassable.
Correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko reports the situation is getting worse as rivers and other water bodies continue to overflow their banks.
According to Kojo Nyarko, overflowed rivers had caused floods which destroyed roads in the region.
Similar flooding last year resulted in the death of 11 and the displacement of thousands of people in the region but recommendations made in the aftermath of the disaster as to how to avoid a repeat of the disaster were never implemented.
The drivers justify their arbitrary increases in fares on the use of unapproved winding roads because the major roads have been destroyed.
Richard Kojo Nyarko spoke to a school girl who said she went to school late because she had to use alternative routes to school.
