Power has been restored to Volta Star Textiles Limited after a debt payment plan of about ȼ1.94million was reached by management of the company and ECG.
The factory located in the Volta region, was closed down in April and over 1,400 workers were laid off because of mounting cost of operations including a huge debt owed Electricity Company of Ghana which had not been settled.
MP for the area, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has since met with the ECG and set out modalities to pay off the debt.
Volta Star Textiles Limited is an industrial flagship in the Volta region. This notwithstanding, the factory has since 2006 had operational challenges which has culminated into huge debt to ECG.
The ECG has since April this year cut power supply to the factory resulting in the closure.
Speaking to JoyNews’, the acting Managing Director John Akowuah said, the Board and management of the factory have had engagement with the Ministry of Trade in an attempt to settle the debt but the effort yielded little result hence the intervention of Member of Parliament for the area.
North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa described the indebtedness as unfortunate but promised uninterrupted power supply to the factory.
The workers say, they are tired of the lip service government and officials have paid them in their attempt to ensure the factory does not collapse.
Some of the workers are also refusing to return to work if salary arrears due them are not paid as promised.
Some have also threatened to vandalize equipment at the factory
