The first commercial production of pozzolana cement is expected to be ready for sale on the market by the end of the year.
Pozzolana cement is produced from clay and it is believed to be more durable and sells cheaper than clinker cement.
Inventors of the product, the Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI), of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), says a plant and the first phase of the project involving expansion of existing facilities for small scale production is nearing completion.
Scientists at the BRRI said the plant will be put to full operation in the next two months.
Officials said the plant suffered an initial delay due to land acquisition problems and unstable power supply.
