A first half goal from youngster Marcus Rashford handed Manchester United a 1-0 win over crosstown rivals Manchester City in an English Premier League match at Etihad Stadium on Sunday night.
The win sees United up to sixth place on the table with 50 points, only a point behind City who are in fourth place.
City started the better of the two sides and almost scored in the 14th minute when Jesus Navas found his way into the box, but saw his low 16-yard shot well-saved by David de Gea.
Two minutes later United took the lead after some individual brilliance from Rashford saw him dribble his way into the box before finishing with aplomb, 1-0.
City suffered a further set-back in the 26th minute when Raheem Sterling had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Fernando.
Six minutes later Yaya Toure almost pulled a goal back when his shot from the edge of the box shaved the wrong side of the post.
The half ended 1-0 in favour of the Red Devils.
Ten minutes into the second half Rashford almost doubled his side’s lead when he got onto the end of precise pass from Juan Mata, but he saw his shot cleared off the goaline by a defender.
In the 66th minute Sergio Aguero almost scored for City when he met a cross from the right, but his six-yard header struck the post.
City continued to press forward after that and created numerous half chances on goal, but the United defence held firm as they picked up their 14th league win of the season.
