President John Mahama has nominated Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency Kofi Adams as Minister of Sports and Recreation.
The selection was confirmed following the release of the third batch of Ministerial appointments for Parliamentary approval.
Kofi, who is expected to go through vetting, replaces Mustafa Ussif, who served as Minister of Sports from 2021 under the New Patriotic Party led by Nana Akufo-Addo.
The 49-year-old, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology with emphasis on Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases has a wealth of experience in both education and politics.
Though yet to be in a sport hot-seat, Kofi had expressed his commitment to seeing the industry thrive prior to the announcement.
"I will gladly accept the Sports Minister position if appointed," he told GhOne TV.
"Let's return to grassroot sports and implement it effectively."
The politician is expected to change the fortunes of the industry including sports infrastructure, national teams funding and performance at major tournaments.
