The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) on Tuesday lauded President John Agyekum Kufuor for the leadership provided in democratic governance.
"The leadership you have demonstrated is commendable," Mr Vidar Helgesan, the Secretary-General, said when he led a delegation to the Castle, Osu.
"It is exciting to be here," he added.
IDEA is an international inter-governmental organisation with 24-member states from across the world, which promotes sustainable democracy.
Its Council is made up of Foreign Ministers of member states and it has selected Accra as the sub-Regional capital of Africa.
President Kufuor said the activities the organisation was engaged in would help to restore peace and security to Africa.
He said he was therefore happy of the choice of Ghana as its headquarters on the continent.
