Mr Divine Ferg Afedo, a former Assembly Member for the Ho Central in the Volta Region, has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling his promise to pay allowances to Assembly Members.
"This was a campaign promise made by the former President during his bid for re-election in the 2024 elections, and it was honoured in Tuesday’s budget," he said.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, announced an allocation of GH₵ 100 million for the monthly payments to Assembly Members.

Mr Afedo commended this move, highlighting the financial challenges Assembly Members face in carrying out their duties.
"I would like to congratulate His Excellency President Mahama for fulfilling his pledge to pay allowances to Assembly Members. This was an important campaign promise. The allowances will motivate Assembly Members, who have been sacrificing for years, to give their best, especially as most of them use their own resources to manage their affairs." he said.
Mr Afedo, who was Constituency Chairman of the NDC in Ho Central, also noted that the monetary allocation would strengthen local governance and urged Assembly Members to fully support the Government's development agenda.
"The allowance will significantly contribute to furthering decentralisation, and Assembly Members must show good faith by offering increased support to His Excellency John Mahama’s reset agenda," he said.
Mr. Afedo also expressed his appreciation for the allocation of funds to the education sector, noting the provision of textbooks, funding for the Free SHS programme, and efforts to empower youth through job creation and agricultural development.
“I believe the 2025 budget as a whole inspires hope among the youth and restores confidence in our governance, economy, and political system.”
Mr Afedo added. "I encourage all citizens, especially the residents of Ho Municipality, to join President Mahama in contributing to national development and the reset agenda to build the Ghana we all want."
