President John Evans Atta Mills has conferred National Awards on a number of distinguished personalities as part of Ghana’s 51st Republic Day celebrations.
Those honoured include the playing body of the Black Stars that made it to the quarter final stage of the World Cup in South Africa, who received the Companion of the Order of the Volta, while the technical and management teams were awarded the Grand Medal.
The playing body of the Under-20 team, the Black Satellites that conquered the world and won gold at the Egypt World Cup, and the Head Coach, Mr. Sellas Tetteh, have been awarded the Member of the Order of the Volta while the technical and management teams have been awarded the Grand Medal.
A statement signed and issued by Koku Anyidoho, Head, Communications at the presidency, named other categories of awards as Officer of the Order of the Volta and Medal for Gallantry.
Forty-one individuals, including Alhaji Issifu Ali, a former co-chairman of the NDC; Diplomat James Victor Gbeho; NDC Council of Elders member Harry Sawyerr; Most. Rev Joseph Oliver Bowers and Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Joyce Bamford-Addo, received awards in the fields of Statesmanship; Religion; Public Service/Judiciary; Civil Service; Private Sector (Real Estates); Higher Education/Chieftaincy; Industry/Hospitality and Banking & Finance among other endeavours.
