President John Evans Atta-Mills returned Saturday from his trip to China to participate in the Housing and Population Census to start Sunday evening.
September 26 night is the reference point for the three-week exercise.
Joy News sources close to the presidency say a team of enumerators would be at the Osu Castle on Monday.
President Mills was in China for about five days where he brokered several deals with the Chinese government and some banks to help accelerate Ghana's development.
He was to continue to Japan on similar missions but truncated his tour to enable him engage in the census. His trip to Japan is now slated for Tuesday.
On his arrival at the Kotoka Airport, the president underscored the importance of the census, saying it is symbolic that he spent the census night in the country and even though the change of plan could be tiring, as president of the country, he found the census exercise also very important he should be able to participate.
Meanwhile Vice President John Dramani Mahama has also called for active participation in the census.
Speaking at this year's yam festival of the chiefs and people of the Asogli State at Ho, Mr Mahama also called for promotion of peace and unity among ethnic groups and political affiliations.
