The National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP], Anthony Karbo has described President Mills as a “confused and blind folded person who is walking in the forest without direction.”
This he attributed to the President’s handling of the nearly two-week old strike action embarked on by doctors in the country’s public health institutions.
Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show BADWAM, on Multi TV, Mr. Karbo noted that the President has not been proactive in handling the many strike actions on the public service front.
“CLOGSAG has been on demonstration, nurses have been on demonstration, UTAG has been on demonstration, doctors have been on demonstration, security services have been on demonstration, all because of salary, and on top of all these, the Minister in charge of the sector has absconded, he is on strike.”
He argued that President Mills is insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians and as such has led the nation into a state of emergency and has also failed to utilize his negotiation skills to resolve the strike action by the doctors.
He also lashed out at the ruling NDC government for what he said was the administration’s lack of vision in resolving concerns raised by workers’ over their salaries.
“It is only a government who cannot look beyond, who is not futuristic to be alert to see that these are major challenges that are going to come…You have a government that is clearly incompetent, it is so weak, and I can see a very tired President, a President who admonishes people and it is so stale, nobody sees the effect of the President speak.”
The NPP’s Youth Organizer also picked on government functionaries for badly criticizing the strike action of the GMA.
But in a rebuttal, the Communications Director of the Central Regional branch of the NDC, Allotey Jacobs who also on the show, accused the NPP of being jealous of President Mills’ humane character as opposede to that of their own flag-bearer who was rejected in the 2008 elections.
“Our president is not running away from the doctors like Kuffuor did, we will solve the problem” he stressed.
He urged members of the NPP to praise instead of criticizing President Mills for the contingency measures he has put in place to contain the strike action embarked on by the doctors.
Commenting on the outcome of negotiations between the leadership of NAGRAT and the Labour Commission, Mr. Allotey Jacobs expressed doubts over comments in the media suggesting that the Finance Ministry intends to pay the arrears due NAGRAT members over a four-year period.
According to him, if those comments are true, it could likely poison the minds of teachers as well as students who are potential voters in the 2012 elections.
