The Communications Director at the Presidency Mr. Koku Ayidoho has said that it will be a breach of ECOWAS protocol if President Mills had issued a statement on the political crisis in Cote d’Ivoire.According to him, the Chairman of ECOWAS, President Goodluck Jonathan issued a statement on behave of ECOWAS states on the political crisis and so President Mills would be going contrary to ECOWAS regulations if he also issued a statement.Mr. Gbagbo and opposition leader, Allasane Ouattara at the weekend swore themselves in as president of the country after a disputed election run-off.Both Mr Gbagbo, the incumbent president since 2000, and Mr Ouattara claim to have won the November 28 poll, plunging the West African state into a new crisis.Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday on calls from a section of the public that President Mills should issue a statement on the situation in Cote d’Ivoire, Mr. Anyidoho added that “President Mills is respecting ECOWAS protocol by not reacting to the issue and so what ever is binding on ECOWAS is binding on Ghana”.He said “President Goodluck Jonathan issued a statement in his capacity as chairman of ECOWAS; in what capacity will President Mills be issuing a statement?”Mr. Anyidoho noted that President Mills will be attending an emergency Heads of State meeting in Abuja on Tuesday December 7, where Heads of States in the sub-region will try to resolve the crisis.President Mills on Monday addressed a five-man Ivorian government delegation who visited him at the Castle to explain President Laurent Gbagbo’s side of the dispute.He pledged to help address the political crisis in neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire.Story by: Adwoa Gyasiwaa/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
