The campaign team of President John Evans Atta Mills has decided to intensify its campaigns in the 230 constituencies of the party to ensure massive victory in the presidential primary slated for next month.According to the National Campaign Team Manager, Mr. J.H. Owusu Acheampong, the team has decided to group itself into two to facilitate the smooth conduct of the exercise. In a telephone interview from Berekum in the Brong-Ahafo Region yesterday, Mr. Owusu Acheampong said whilst one group of the team would visit the northern constituencies of the party, the other would concentrate on the southern belt.He said the programme, which had been termed “Operation Mopping up Exercise” was designed to ensure that the President secured more than 90 per cent of votes cast on the congress day.“In politics, there is no room for complacency and for which reason there is the need for the team to redouble its efforts to ensure that the victory of the President chalks up on the congress day is emphatic,” he said.Mr. Owusu Acheampong, who is also a Member of the Council of State, said the next three weeks would be crucial for the team since it would be engaged in the exercise of convincing delegates on why President Mills should be retained as the party’s flag bearer for the 2012 presidential election. He said leadership style varied and the team was of the strongest conviction that President Mills had not reneged a bit on his promise to improve the condition of life of the people.Mr. Owusu Acheampong said the team was determined to brief delegates on the achievements of President Mills so far, which he claimed was unparalleled under the Fourth Republic. In addition, he said, the team would also disseminate among the delegates initiatives which President Mills had instituted for the rest of his term in office to improve the infrastructure development in the country and remind them of his excellent comportment in the discharge of his duties ever since he entered frontline politics in 1996.“We are not going to indulge in any mudslinging in our campaign it will be based on the modesty, humility and sense of purpose and urgency which President Mills attaches to his work and the development of the party,” he said.Source: Daily Graphic
