President John Mahama has pledged to personally help find a lasting solution to the several chieftaincy disputes in the Greater Accra Region.Though the President says some appear to have been resolved, he says more needs to be done to end such crises.The President was speaking in a meeting with the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs at the Castle when they called on him to console him on the demise of Professor Mills and to also congratulate him on his assumption of the highest office in the land.President Mahama also pledged to cooperate with chiefs to resolve land disputes in the region.He said the issue of land was a sensitive one and that measures would be put in place to ensure fairness and equity in the distribution of land.The president also promised to modernize Accra to befit the status of the capital of the country.“We need to make Accra a city that is dignified and worthy of the name Ghana has; Ghana has a lot of international respect and people expect that its capital city and its capital region should be befitting of the country and so we will work with you to see how we can bring up Accra to that standard,” he said.The Volta Region House of Chiefs which was also at the Castle to console President Mahama pledged their total support.Its President Togbe Afede XIV, however, reminded President Mahama about some unfulfilled promises made by the late President.President Mahama promised the chiefs he will continue with projects President Mills started but couldn’t finish and will also undertake a tour of the region to complete President Mills’s nationwide tour.
