The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West constituency is questioning the competence of President John Dramani Mahama following what is he says is his [Mahama’s] difficulty in securing a final resting place for his predecessor, the late President, John Evans Atta Mills.Benjamin Kofi Ayeh says the President lacks the ability to take a firm stance on his decision on where to bury his boss and thus cannot be good leader of the country. The NPP MP's comment comes after the spokesperson of the Funeral Planning Committee, Ato Dadzie disclosed that the late John Mills would be buried at the Flagstaff House. The decision was met with stern criticisms from the NPP and some family members who argued that the late President while alive refused to relocate to the edifice hence it would be inappropriate to bury him there. However, a statement issued by Deputy Minister of Information James Agyanim Boateng on Thursday said the proposed burial sites of the late Mills have been narrowed down to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and a location within the old Flagstaff House.Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Ben Ayeh posited that the controversy surrounding the late President’s burial site is to be expected.“I am not surprised the NDC cannot get this simple thing right. This has exposed them as a non-performing government which should be shown the exit,” he said.Ayeh indicated that the choice of the Flagstaff House by President Mahama and subsequently seconded by the Funeral Committee was a total blunder especially when the late Mills refused to move into the edifice. The Upper Denkyira West MP noted that government difficulty to reach a consensus with the bereaved family on where the late President should be laid to rest has exposed the bad governance style of ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).The NPP MP wondered why government insist on burying late John Mills at the Flagstaff House when in fact members of the ruling party criticized the erstwhile Kufuor administration for wasting tax payers money on the edifice in the name of a Presidential palace when according to the NDC, majority of Ghanaians languished in abject poverty.“Why is the NDC insisting the late President must be buried at the Jubilee House; whose parochial interest would it serve?” he quizzed.Ben Ayeh said the latest development has exposed the hypocrisy and double standards of the NDC and urged Ghanaians to show them the exit in the December polls.
