The President of the Ghana Book Publishers Association, Asare Konadu Yamoah has lauded government's stands in providing a tax waiver on raw materials required for printing in the country, describing it as a good step.
According to him, the association has been demanding for tax waivers for the last seven years but to not avail.
"It is a good step. We have been advocating for it for the past 6/7 years and it had been granted by this government", he intimated.
Speaking to Joy News, Mr. Yamoah further pointed out that the total amount of the waiver in a year, will contribute tremendously to the development of the economy.
The comment of the President of the Ghana Book Publishers Association, came in the wake of the Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper announcing a tax waiver on raw materials required for printing, when he presented the budget statement last Tuesday, before Parliament.
Also benefiting from tax waivers is the fishing sector. Now outboard motors and fishing nets will be tax free. The health sector is also a beneficiary. Some medical supplies and equipment related to HIV AIDS treatment will also be duty free.
Additionally, Ghanaians, whose annual income is below a threshold of a thousand five hundred Ghana cedis (1,500) will be entitled tax free.
In a related development, some fishermen in Accra have commended the decision to cut taxes on fishing nets and outboard motors but speaking to Joy Nnews, three fishermen said they needed credit facilities to support their fishing business.
