Professor David Asamoah has been elected as the new Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). 

Following polls by senior members of the University on Tuesday September 17, 2024, Prof. Asamoah secured 436 votes out of the 918 ballots cast. 

He was in competition with Professor Charles Frimpong of the Department of Industrial Arts and the Civil Engineering Department’s Professor (Mrs.) Helen Michelle Korkor Essandoh. 

Professor Frimpong managed to garner 296 votes as Prof. (Mrs.) Essandoh came third with 186 votes. 

However, the two leading candidates will be presented to the University council for consideration pursuant to the University’s election statutes for Pro Vice-chancellorship.  

Profile of Prof. David Asamoah

Prof. David Asamoah has been with the KNUST for the past 17 years and is currently serving as the Head of the Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems at School of Business (KSB).

He holds a Bachelors’ degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Masters’ degree in Business Administration and PhD in Logistics & Supply Chain Management, all from the KNUST. 

Prof. Asamoah’s teaching and research interests are in the areas of Supply Chain management and Information Systems, with particular interests in Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Digitalization and Digital Transformation, Data-driven Supply Chains, Sustainable Supply Chain Management, Supply Chain disruption and resilience.

Prof. Asamoah's extensive experience in university administration includes serving as Vice-Dean of KNUST School of Business for two consecutive terms and as Head of Department (HoD) for three consecutive academic calendars. 

As HoD, he facilitated the progression of colleague lecturers in both terminal degree attainment and academic rank advancement. He has prioritized student satisfaction by overseeing excellent teaching, organizing relevant seminars, field trips, and workshops to expose students to practical experiences. 

He is currently a Research Fellow and Senior Technical Advisor at the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chains – Africa (CARISCA), a USAID sponsored project between Arizona State University (ASU) and KNUST.

Over the years, he has served as chair and member of numerous statutory and ad-hoc committees within the university community, as well as moderator for several KNUST-affiliated universities.

Prof. Asamoah's contributions at the national level can’t be overlooked as he has served as Deputy Chair of the Governing Council for the Institute of Project Management Professionals and as a Faculty Advisory Board member for Sunyani Technical University. 

On the international front, Prof. Asamoah has served as an organizing committee member and mini-track co-chair for several international conferences, such as AMCIS and IFIP. Currently, he is a member of the Editorial Review Boards for the Africa Journal of Management and the Journal of African Business.

Prior to academia, he co-founded Asamoah & Williams Consulting, specializing in Management Consulting, with over a decade of experience providing consulting services in financial management and microfinance software implementation.
