Professor Edmund Nminyem Delle, a leading member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has declared his intentions to contest for the National Chairmanship slot of the party in the April 30, National Delegates Congress.
He said: "I have been there, as National Chairman during one of the most difficult moment of the CPP, with experience and maturity I was able to steer the party to stable ground and laid a foundation for the party's development.
"We are currently at another challenging moment to revamp it and offer it as the third force in Ghanaian politics… This is time that political and general maturity and ability to engage other parties count."
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Prof Delle said although the CPP could make significant strides because the masses were calling for the return of the party into governance, fragmentation, wrangling and bickering within the party would not help achieve the intended mission.
Prof Delle, frowned on disunity, and bickering within the party and appealed to the leading members of the party with noble ideas and innovations to join him to revive the fortunes of the CPP.
"If we want to organise the party, we must all forget about our personal ambitions and come together and plan a way for the progress of the party…which I strongly stand for hence my responds to calls to come back as National Chairman," he said.
Prof Delle who is the Director and Chief Consultant of Rabito Group of Clinics explained that the worth of experience he has garnered in his time as former chairman and in many other areas has given him a worth of knowledge that would enable the party regain its rightful place in Ghana politics.
"I am coming back to make sure that the party is restructured on a very firm foundation; I want to ensure that there are systems and procedures, which works… We have to build capacity."
Prof Delle pledged a committed and sincere leadership service to build a formidable party capable of making huge impact in Elections 2012, stressing "I seek to re-establish a firm grip of the CPP on the country's political landscape."
He said without strengthening the structures at the grassroots there would be no meaningful development within the party and emphasised the need to repackage the ideals and ideology of the party to make it more relevant to modern Ghanaian politics.
Prof Delle also expressed concern about the political tension, suspicion and antagonism in a non-election year, which he described as a very dangerous development and "a sure recipe for disaster in an election year".
He said: "As a stalwart politician, I believe that multi-party democracy and politicking should not generate into unnecessary heat, among opponents," and appealed to journalists to serve as non-partisan think-tanks to reduce the tension.
"Mediate, and counsel where necessary to harness unity among political leaders and the entire citizenry; reduce the volatile political environment and save the nation from mishaps in the future."
Meanwhile the National Chairman, Mr Ladi Nylander confirmed to the GNA at Aburi that the timetable for holding national, regional and constituency congresses to elect executives to the various positions was definite.
According to the timetable, the delegates' congress to elect national executives is slated for April 30, which would be proceeded by ward, constituency and regional levels elections and the chosen of flagbearer on September 30.
Mr Nylander said details logistics and time lines for the election as well as rules and procedures of engagement for the contestants would be communicated to the rank and file of the party through party structures.
He reiterated his call on regional party leadership to deal comprehensively with specific issues aimed at enhancing the smooth and effective running of party machinery at the constituency levels.
