The Department of Communication and Design of the College of Art and Social Sciences (CASS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), would in January next year organise a refresher course for professional photographers in the Ashanti Region.
The programme is aimed at upgrading the skills of photographers to boost their work.
Mr. George Kuhiator, a lecturer at the department, announced these at a meeting of the Regional branch of the Ghana Union of Professional Photographers (GUPP), in Kumasi at the weekend.
He said the photography industry was undergoing enormous
changes and advised the professionals to work hard to enable them to cope with the changing times.
Mr. Emmanuel Happy Agbenyikey, Director of Operations of Rohi Consulting Services in Kumasi, appealed to members of the Union to adopt effective management practices to improve upon their businesses.
He asked them to avoid unhealthy practices, which had brought the image of the photography industry into disrepute.
Mr. Mandela Martin Donkor, Regional Chairman of the Union, said the group had currently 150 members and urged non-members to join it.
He appealed to professional photographers to pay their taxes regularly and promptly so that government could generate more revenue for development.
Mr. Donkor announced that the 20th anniversary celebration of the Union would be held in Accra on November 28 this year and urged members to attend the ceremony in their numbers.
Mr. Kwame Bour, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association of Industries, appealed to government and financial institutions to assist industrialists with credit facilities to enable them to expand their businesses.
