Statement by AGI on World Press Freedom Day
The AGI congratulates the Press (electronic and print) on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day. We acknowledge the fact that the press plays an important role in deepening democracy and nation building through the creation of a platform for people to get informed and participate in national issues.
We urge you to use the power of the media to promote issues that are of relevance to the development of the nation whilst exposing negative cancers in society. Your role in society is crucial and yet comes with many challenges. Irrespective of the challenges on the media landscape, both locally and internationally, we encourage you to continue with the good work of informing and educating Ghanaians on various developmental and societal and international happenings.
The basis of the development of Ghana rests on its industry. As you commemorate this day, make the promotion of industry an agenda in your programmes. By this, the media would seek to promote the interest of the industrial sector and how it supports government’s efforts in providing a good standard of living for Ghanaians.
The AGI wishes all journalists well in their endeavors in supporting the development of Ghana through an efficient and reliable Press.
