The Circuit Court in Accra has adjourned the assault case involving former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil to Tuesday, June 14, 2016.
This was necessitated by the prosecution's failure to produce the docket on the case in court today.
John Paintsil has been charged with stealing, offensive conduct and assault of a police officer after he was reported to have slapped the East Legon District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Basintale in the right eye during interrogation in a case of car theft reported against him by his wife.
Because the District Police Commander is a victim in the case, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, ACP Timothy Bonga Yoosa, has directed that he steps aside for the Crimes Officer in the district to handle the case, since he is now a party to the case.
Though the Crimes Officer came to court today, the prosecutor insisted there was a misunderstanding as to when to commence the case. He, therefore, pleaded with the court to adjourn the case to allow for proper preparation.
The court then granted the prosecution's request after lawyer for John Paintsil, Kojoga Adawudu agreed on the adjourned date.
Mr. Adawudu insisted his client never assaulted the Legon district police commander and that they will be happy to prove that in court.
