The Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) of the Ghana Trades Union Congress, has called on members to dutifully discharge their duties while it continued to negotiate with government to implement the Single Spine Salary Structure.
Mrs Cecilia Naab Ockling, National Vice Chairperson of PSWU, who made the appeal on Thursday, urged workers to honestly discharge their duties in order to ensure steady growth of the economy.
Mrs Ockling made the appeal when she met with members of the Brong-Ahafo regional branch of the union in Sunyani.
She advised members to attend meetings promptly and regularly as well as work in unity and harmony to guarantee the labour strength of the country.
The meeting, which attracted more than 100 members, focussed on the theme: “PSWU 50 years of the service of workers: the way forward.” The 50th anniversary celebration of the PSWU was launched in Accra April 23, this year.
Mrs Ockling explained that the welfare of members and for that matter Ghanaian workers was the major priority of the union and asked members to close their rank and file and forge ahead in unity with sister unions to achieve a common goal.
She reminded members of the union’s hostel in Kumasi and advised them make patronise it.
The National Vice Chairperson paid glowing tribute to founding fathers of the union and urged members to contribute their quota towards its growth and development.
Participants in an open forum appealed to the union’s hierarchy to make create a fund that would enable members to access and establish income generating activities.
Mr Charles Kwasi Kumi, Regional Industrial Relation Officer said the union had acquired vast land in Sunyani and Tema, which it intended to construct hostel facilities.
He appealed to members, who had not obtain identification cards to do so to enable them benefit from the union’s achievements.
