Roads and Highways Minister has revealed that the PTC Interchange project in Takoradi will commence in September.
Kwasi Amoako Atta at a press briefing ahead of President Akufo Addo’s two-day tour in the Western Region said the project will herald a “new dawn of road infrastructure” for the region.
“Under the dynamic leadership of President Nana Akufo- Addo, we want to assure the people of Western region that they will get their fair share of the 2020 ‘Year of Roads’,” he said.
According to Joy News’ Ina-Thalia Quansah, the Minister further stressed that, 80 new roads projects will be undertaken in the region to connect the rural areas to major towns.
He said the government inherited about 80,000km of roads network with only 39 per cent considered good while 61 per cent in poor condition, 23 per cent were paved and 77 per cent gravelled or at an early stage.
However, from January 2017 to date, 39 per cent of the roads are considered as good with 32 per cent fair and 29 per cent poor.
He said the Western Region has a total of 5,289.7km of roads network with 1,280km paved (24%), 1,641km good (31%), 1,623 fair and 2,000km being poor.
