An Independent Presidential Candidate, Samuel Ofori Ampofo has attributed the stunted growth of the energy sector to the profuse level of corruption within the country’s structural system.
Speaking at the IMANI Independent Presidential Debate on Thursday, Mr Ampofo said until corrupt state officials are dealt with in accordance with the law, the governance system of the country will remain weak.
“As long as we stick to the status quo of not punishing corrupt people we will not go anywhere.
“The system is broken, NDC and NPP must just be fired because we need competent people at the helm of governance,” he said.

Touching on other policies to develop the country, the Presidential Candidate highlighted the need for meritocracy to tackle nepotism in various sectors.
For him, people must be employed based on their competence and not their relations to the employer.
He noted this disrupts development by breeding indiscipline at various working environment.
Mr Ofori Ampofo also said an industrial-driven economy is what will salvage the country from the high rate of unemployment and create wealth for citizens.

According to him, “The IMF [International Monetary Fund] has deceived the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the past 28 years that it is not the business of the government to create jobs but in reality it is the duty of the government to create jobs for the citizens.”
“As President, my government will set up productive industries all over the country and make a request for local capitalisation,” he stressed.
This, he said, when successful will alleviate poverty and solve a huge part of Ghanaians problems.
