Government has expressed its intention to expand all Regional Houses of Chiefs to accommodate the admission of the paramount queen mothers.
“It is a decision we have taken that our queen mothers should be incorporated into all the Regional Houses of Chiefs,” President Mahama said.
Government through the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture earlier in the week communicated the move to include queen mothers to the houses.
Addressing a gathering at the Upper West Region, the President indicated that the redesigning of the National House of Chiefs has become necessary because the current structures of the Houses of Chiefs were not gender balanced.
He revealed that a budget allocation will be made to embark on the expansion plans saying, “we are going to come up with a project to redesign all regional houses of chiefs and expand them so that our queen mothers and our female chiefs can join their colleagues in the regional and national houses of chiefs.”
