The Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab, KNUST (RAIL-KNUST) is calling on stakeholders to test a framework, developed by the institution, meant to ensure responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab is under the Artificial Intelligence for Development in Africa Multidisciplinary Labs project initiated by the international development research centre.
The aim of the lab is to develop talent in Data Science and Machine Learning to bridge the skill gap needed to champion the digital transformation agenda in Ghana and the sub-region.
The Scientific Director of the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab, Prof. Jerry John Kponyo explained that a framework has been created to measure the responsible use of an artificial intelligence, hence, the call for stakeholders to test its effectiveness.
“One of the things that immediately we have been able to develop is a framework to be able to measure how responsible an AI solution is.
“We would want as many labs a s possible to adapt the framework, use it and then give us feedback in reference to how we are doing as far as that framework is concerned,” he said.
He hinted at RAIL's efforts at developing AI solutions for critical sectors of the economy.
“The reality about artificial intelligence is data. We are working in the area of applying artificial intelligence in agriculture, health and energy and in several instances the data sets needed to develop solutions are not available,” he said.
