It is indisputable to that Zongos have some of the great football talents in the country.

The sixth edition of the Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu's Cup, popularly known as the Ramadan cup was the most talked about event over the weekend.

24 Zongo communities spanning from four regions; Greater Accra, Eastern, Central and Volta regions displayed pure talents of football, marvellous, exciting and never-ending drama.

With cheers, jeers and boos accompanying the ambience of the Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu Sports Complex in New Fadama.

About 5,000 fans were estimated to be in attendance at the finals between Kasoa and Hohoe-Zongo. There were also some notable dignitaries including, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, three times African Footballer of the year, Abedi Ayew Pele, Black Stars head coach, C.K Akonnor, Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Yusif, Patrick Boamah and Peter Amewu, and a host of renowned journalists and government officials.

Kasoa Messi

Charles Appiah was adjudged player of the tournament and earned the tag "Kasoa Messi)". He was undoubtedly the best player of the two-day tournament constantly dazzling the crowd with his quick feet.

Fellow Ghanaians, that young player is a gem. He is the epitome of what modern football is about; agile, play with finesse, does not bow to pressure from spectators, has great precision, booming with confidence and his ability to dazzle and meander through players twice as his size is amazing.

Here is a player that was applauded by the Soccer Maestro, a three-times African Player of the year winner, Abedi Ayew Pele.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR)

The climax of the tournament made headlines in some media spaces, all for positive reasons.

The VAR was used for the first time in the tournament. Fans were left bewildered at the sight of a pitch side monitor as the referee consulted the technology for the final. It went ahead to settle nerves.

We Stay for Love of the Game

It is obvious that Ghanaians love their football, especially when they see their communities lock horns with others.

The Sports Complex was filled with an engaging football atmosphere. Blinding lights beaming on the super green-levelled astro turf and a gentle weather that made the games more scintillating and we loved every piece of it.

If people can sit and watch a community football beyond 10:00PM regardless of the fact the following day is a Monday, I think there is an avenue to leverage to the betterment of our national football.
