Former President Jerry John Rawlings is expected to join hands with 11 year old Ghanaian School boy Master Andrew Adansi-Bonnah’s to raise funds to save women and children from hunger in Somalia.
Young Andrew departs Accra this afternoon for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will be met by Mr. Rawlings after the AU invited the 11 year old to address its Pledging Conference tomorrow, Thursday, August 25th 2011.
The former President who is the AU’s Special Representative to Somalia, is said to be amazed at the selflessness of Andrew and hopes the presence of Andrew will define positively the outcome of the pledging conference.
Spokesperson for Mr. Kofi Adams met the little boy at the office of the former President on Tuesday and briefed him about the meeting.
Young Andrew’s Address to the African Union will place great emphasizes on Food Security, Accessible Health Care and Nutrition, Right to Education, Conflict Resolution and Post War reconstruction of Somalia as well as Pan Africanism. He will also address the issues of children and women who are always the victims of conflict, wars and famine.
The speech will be presented on the latest rlg laptop donated to him on Tuesday by Mr. Sam Fletcher, Head of Corporate Affairs of rlg Communication Ghana limited at Osu.
In an abstract of his speech to be delivered, Andrew states that, “when I see horrifying pictures of women and children who are always the victims of conflict, wars and famine on the TV and internet they really touched my heart because without children and women there is no hope”.
“On this day, at this assembly, I on behalf of African Children plead with the African leadership to unite now, pledge their good support for Somalia and the horn of Africa; make good policies that will give hope to the future the African Union. This will help the AU to manage Africa well. We should also not forget that children and women are suffering in Libya. Today there is famine all over the horn of Africa. The time for us to act is now Andrew has said in his speech”.
Meanwhile UNICEF Rep to Ghana Dr. Iyabode Olusanmi said UNICEF is truly proud of Andrew for his initiative and will support him at all levels of his project and future pursuits.
