Former President John Rawlings has endorsed President John Mahama and touted the NDC’s chances of securing a second term in December. This warm and friendly posture towards the NDC, the government and new the president contrasts sharply with the very antagonistic and critical views Mr. Rawlings held about the party before the passing of President Mills. At one point he warned the NDC against using his name to promote party events stressing the party had little chance of winning the December elections because as he put it, “the party is already in a ditch”. But today addressing the Volta Regional House of Chiefs in Ho, Mr. Rawlings drastically altered his position touting the party’s positives and the real possibility of winning the elections under its new leader, President Mahama. “Something positive has no doubt emerged of late. Prior to the demise of our late president, there was a lot of nervousness. There was a lot of anxiety among members of the governing party. “And it became a very stressful situation for most of us. However divine intervention created a great deal of goodwill for him on his demise. That brought a public sympathy which also served a fine purpose in helping to reignite the [party]. "The emergence of John Mahama has also added a spark to the governing party and has brought about the possibility of the ruling party also winning the election," he said.
