Ex- President John Rawlings has met with chiefs in the Volta Region to discuss “rising tension” in Ghana ahead of the December election.Aide to the ex-president Kofi Adams told Joy News the meeting was to “de-stress” the nation and to reduce tension in the country.Kofi Adams wondered why each election year is often characterized with rising tension in the country, stating that as a political leader, it was the duty of the ex-president to try to reduce the political temperature in the country.He said the Tuesday afternoon meeting with the Awomefia, Togbui Sri also touched on leadership and institutional failures in the country.“Some of the worries discussed are about institutions and why they fail to right the wrongs when their attention is drawn to it.“It is important that when institutions are given power, they utilize this power appropriately,” he cautioned, but did not say which institutions have failed in righting certain wrongs pointed out to them.He said the ex-president will be meeting the Volta Regional House of Chiefs later and possibly chiefs in other regions as well.Adams said the president had to begin from home before extending his visits to other regions.
He will not say if the ex-president will be campaigning in the 2012 elections.
