Former president Jerry John Rawlings and his wife do not have the requisite discipline and capacity to form a political party, says Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper.
According to him the fact that Mr Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings ,enjoy massive following, especially from grassroots supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), does not mean they can found a party.
Kweku Baako’s comments follow recent reports that the former first couple had founded a new political party named the National Democratic Party (NDP). However, checks at the Electoral Commission indicate no record of such a party.
Contributing to discussions on Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile – also aired on the Joy News channel of Multi TV – Mr Baako explained that Rawlings became the automatic founder and flagbearer of the NDC because the party was borne out of a government he had headed.
