The Northern Regional Security Council has decided to maintain curfew hours in Bimbilla following REGSEC meeting held Wednesday.
Chairman of the REGSEC and Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Limuna Muniru told Joy News the area is a bit volatile and security has to be maintained.
Bimbilla was the hotbed of violence last week following clashes between some butchers and members of a king's palace.
The butchers were reported to have failed to perform a traditional rite by making meat available to the King's Palace a misunderstanding that degenerated into violence.
Some 13 people were believed to have been killed in the ensuing battle with thousands of properties destroyed.
Even though the area was already under some curfew, the curfew hours was increased - from 4:00pm-6:00 am - due to the violence.
After a meeting by REGSEC to assess the security situation, the Regional Minister said despite calls by residents for the curfew hours to be relaxed, "the situation was a bit volatile and pockets of tension over there," so they decided to maintain the curfew hours.
He said the security men have been able to ensure calm in the area and are engaging the Regional Peace Council to intervene and speak to the factions involved "so that we can broker peace in Bimbilla."
