An 11-member committee established by the Western Regional Coordinating Council to investigate the recent fire outbreak at the Takoradi Central Market would submit its report by the end of next week.
Mr. John Latse, Public Relations Officer of the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the assembly would continue to keep out hawkers in and around the market to ensure free vehicular movement. He said the assembly is putting up permanent structures at the Apremdo Market for used cloths and shoe sellers from Takoradi Central Market who would be re-settled there.
Mr. Latse said the assembly originally planned to move to the Apremdo Market after the celebration of the country's Golden Jubilee but the dealers appealed to the assembly to provide them with permanent structures first.
He said the assembly has reclaimed a "depressed" land at Apremdo at the cost of 20 million cedis for construction of permanent structures for shoe dealers.
Mr. Latse said stalls have been built for shoe dealers and a warehouse is under construction at the market.
He said the re-settlement of cloths and shoe dealers at the Apremdo Market would help decongest Takoradi Central Market because they their goods are well patronized.Source: GNA
