Executive Director for Ghana National Council for Private Schools (GNACOPS), has called on the public to report anyone who extorts monies from private school teachers in the name of training them to administer the new academic curriculum.
Mr. Enoch Gyetuah said this on the sidelines of the 4th Graduation Ceremony of Doxa Royal School at Adum-Kumasi.
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, announced reforms to the current educational system including replacing the existing primary school curriculum and introducing new uniforms for Junior High School [JHS] pupils.
Speaking in glowing terms of the new curriculum for primary schools, Opoku-Amankwa said the reform is in line with international best practice, which requires a review every five years. “A key feature of the new curriculum is the introduction of a national assessment examination at classes two, four and six,” he saidHowever, it is alleged that some public school teachers who were trained as master trainers for the new academic curriculum, are extorting monies from unsuspecting teachers.
According to the director of GNACOPS, Mr. Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, the situation is disturbing as it contradicts the road map agreed between the leadership of the Ministry of Education and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment.
"Any master trainer of the public sector who shows up to train a private school teacher should not be allowed. Such people should be reported, arrested and dealt with according to the laws of the country," he announced.
He revealed that master trainers of public institutions were trained with the resources of the state and are therefore not supposed to charge for their services.
