Residents along the Kumasi-Barekese road have expressed concern about the health hazard they are facing because of the dusty environment the contractor working on the road had created. They have appealed to the government to prevail on the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to ensure that the contractor puts things right to ensure a safe environment for the people.
Mr. Ernest Yaw Asamoah, a retired civil servant, said he had discussed the issue with the Ashanti Regional Director of GHA several times and was told that the contractor would water the road daily but this had not been done.“Those of us who live by the road are suffering the most and action is urgently needed. Senior citizens like my self are at risk. Some of us are already suffering from eye infections and congested lungs,” he said.He said it was important to take action to avert possible respiration problems among the people living along the highway.Source: GNA
