Residents of Domiabra, a community at the outskirts of Accra are appealing to government to build a hospital to cater for their health needs.

Their call comes after a woman who was five months pregnant lost her child because she could not recieve the requisite healthcare service in the depleted health post in Domiabra.

Located just 30 kilometers from Kasoa, the only health facility in the community gives first aid to patients and refers all cases to a clinic which is miles away.

A report by Joy News’ Beatrice Adu, who paid a visit to the community, indicates that the only doctor who was posted to the health facility hardly showed up and two of the three nurses who are normally at the facility were on leave at the time of her visit.

The situation therefore made it impossible for anyone who was sick to get the needed medical attention.

As if the lack of medical personnel in the community was not enough, those who desire to seek medical attention elsewhere had to travel on deplorable roads before they get to a relatively better health facility in Kasoa.

For Abena Bentuwaa, it is a heartbreaking moment that she had to lose her five months old pregnancy due to the situation.

She said she woke up at dawn feeling very sick. A taxi was called to transport her to a hospital at Kasoa but due to the poor nature of the roads, she lost her child before they could even get to the hospital.

When asked why she travelled all the way to Kasoa in her state, Abena said health officials at the clinic in the community were usually unavailable and she was uncertain if the facility had the required materials to cater for her.

She is worried the situation has been left unattended to for so long and fears that other pregnant women would have to experience the pain of losing their children just as she is.

Abena and her family as well as residents of the community are therefore appealing to government to come to their aid and fix the road.
