The Constitution Review Commission (CRC) has so far received 31,000 submissions and the majority came through outreach programmes in Ghana and abroad.
The chairman of the Commission, Professor Albert Fiadjor, who disclosed this in the Northern regional capital, Tamale, expressed disappointment that out of the 31,000, only 1,000 came from the Northern Region.
He said the Upper East Region, which has the least population in the country, submitted about 2,000 entries and entreated the people of the Northern Region, who showed greatest enthusiasm to get the Savana Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) bill passed by the government to do the same on the constitution review to ensure its success.
He said the commission had instituted high consultative processes at the community, district, and regional levels to make it simple for people to make inputs.
The Northern Regional Minister, Moses Magbenba underscored the importance of the exercise.
Some of the submissions at the commission's first public forum in Tamale called for constitutional provisions to empower the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and other anti-corruption agencies to enable them independently investigate and prosecute corrupt public officials.
They also submitted that the term of office of Members of Parliament should be limited to only two terms and MPs continuing in office should not be given ex-gratia.
The regent of Lamashegu said traditional leaders should be empowered to settle land disputes.
