After failing to win any of their recent international friendlies, captain of the Black Stars Andre Ayew has assured Ghanaians of the team’s capabilities in qualifying Ghana for the 2022 World Cup.
The Black Stars traveled to Rabat where a goal from Jawad El Yamiq meant CK Akonnor suffered his third defeat as coach of the senior national team. Four days later, a resilient performance by the Black Stars saw them share the spoils with Cote d’Ivoire in Cape Coast.
Coupled with lingering mistrust in CK's ability, the two draws meant the outcry from the general public over the management and performances of the Black Stars only grew louder. Ayew is still confident in the team’s chances despite the foul shouts.
“I think this [against Ivory Coast] was a different game and it was a friendly coming up. We know what’s ahead of us, some of us have played a lot of qualification games and we know what’s ahead and we will be ready, we are not worried.
“We will have wanted to win the two games but we are not worried,” the captain said after the draw.
After the friendlies, the next assignment of the senior national team will be in September, where they will kick-off the first of their World Cup qualifiers with Ethiopia.
